Safe Fleet Truck & Trailer Fleet Video Solutions

Traffic Report: Fleet Camera & Video Solutions Required

Delivering in tight, congested, urban environments is difficult for any vehicle, especially a delivery vehicle that is making on-street and off-street deliveries multiple times a day.  Having cameras, video, and recording software is not only necessary but is becoming standard equipment.  Backup cameras, forward-facing cameras, side cameras, and even in-cab cameras not only allow drivers to see blind spots, but protect drivers and the company in the event of an accident.

The business case for fleet video solutions becomes even stronger when these statistics are reviewed:

  • Of the approximately 475,000 police-reported crashes involving large trucks in 2016, there were 3,864 (0.8 percent) fatal crashes and 104,000 (22 percent) injury crashes.
  • Single-vehicle crashes (including crashes that involved a bicyclist, pedestrian, nonmotorized vehicle, etc.) made up 22 percent of all fatal crashes and 14 percent of all injury crashes in 2016·
  • The majority (62 percent) of fatal large truck crashes involved two vehicles.
  • The vast majority of fatal crashes (84 percent) and nonfatal crashes (88 percent) involving large trucks occurred on weekdays (Monday through Friday).
  • There were 12.0 fatal large truck crashes per million people in the United States in 2016, a 13 percent increase from 10.6 in 2010.

These facts are from the U.S. Department of Transportation 2016 statistics.  Large trucks are defined as vehicles that weigh more than 10,000 pounds and can be either single-unit vehicles or combination vehicles consisting of a single-unit truck or tractor pulling one or more trailers.

Not to be considered scare tactics but the simply the facts- the fact is fatalities are increasing as our roads are becoming more congested and distracted.
